I would love to tell you that skin care is a one-size fits all deal, but it’s not. Your skin needs different things as you age, as circumstances in your life change, and quite often, as the seasons change. This post is geared mostly towards people who live in areas with severe climate changes (like me, thank you Rocky Mountains!), so if you live in an area with a more moderate climate, your skin care likely won’t change as much with the seasons.
It’s dry here in Alberta. So. Very. Dry. Dry air is great for some things, my hair almost always does what I want it to, and stays that way when I walk outside. Dry, cold air can be murder on your skin though. Here are some tips to hopefully help you get through the coming winter.
Moisturize. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, your skin needs a moisturizer. Even (especially) if you have a combo or oily complexion. Invest in a good moisturizer and your skin will thank you. In the winter, you may need to add additional moisture to your regular routine. I personally like to add mine at night, when the skin is in repair mode and I don’t have to worry as much about being a grease ball. Two of my favourite add-in moisturizers are the Intense Moisturizing Cream for normal-dry skin and the Oil Free Hydrating Gel for us combo-oily gals.
Exfoiliate. You can’t rehydrate dead skin cells and bring them back to life. You have to remove them so your skin can get the high-quality ingredients your paying for to nourish it. The TimeWise Microdermabrasion Plus Set is an AMAZING mechanical exfoliation treatment. It’s two steps you add in after cleansing your face, and the second step has a PORE MINIMIZER! Yup! You get fresh skin and smaller looking pores. Mary Kay also just released the TimeWise Repair Revealing Radiance Facial Peel. This is a glycolic acid peel that you apply to your face like a mask and remove with a cloth after 10 minutes. This peel is awesome because it removes dead skin, hydrates, brightens and evens skin tone. It’s basically magic. Both of these treatments you can use 1-3 times per week, but you do not want to use them on the same day.
Don’t forget about your lips!! Lips get a bum rap in winter. They’re always exposed to the worst of the weather. Add the trendy matte lipsticks, and your poor lips wind up feeling like the bottom of a hobbit’s foot. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. TimeWise Satin Lip Set will be your new best friend. It’s a 2 step system that has an exfoliating mask, and a 12-hour moisturizer. Your lips will be lovely and soft all winter long.
Treat your body too. Winter is hard on all skin, but sometimes we forget about the parts of our body covered in leggings and sweaters. Satin Body Silkening Shea lotion moisturizes for up to 10 hours and is just what your thirsty skin is calling for. Bonus points for coming in a tube so that you don’t have that annoying last inch of lotion that the pump won’t suck up.
Stop hand cracks before they start with Satin Hands. This is a fan favourite that recently got a face lift. It’s a 3 step system with an intense skin softener, exfoliating scrub and ultra long-lasting hand cream. It now has Shea butter for extra moisturization, and includes no harmful micro-beads! Pro-tip: It’s also great for feet!!
Whatever your winter activities include, these tips are sure to keep your skin glowing and healthy all winter long.
